Climatological Statistics of Extreme Geomagnetic Fluctuations With Periods From 1 s to 60 min

چکیده

Using a global database of 125 magnetometers covering several decades, we present occurrence statistics for fluctuations the horizontal geomagnetic field (dBh/dt) exceeding 99.97th percentile (P99.97) both ramp changes (Rn) and root-mean-square (Sn) over periods, ?, from 1 to 60 min describe their variation with latitude magnetic local time (MLT). Rates exceedance are explained by reference magneto-ionospheric processes dominant in different MLT sectors, including ULF waves, interplanetary shocks, auroral substorm currents, traveling convection vortices. By fitting generalized Pareto tail distributions above P99.97, predict return levels (RLs) Rn Sn periods between 5 500 years. P99.97 RLs increase monotonically frequency (1/?) (with few exceptions at latitudes) this is well modeled quadratic functions whose coefficients vary smoothly latitude. For UK providing 1-s cadence measurements, analysis extended cover s empirical Magnetotelluric Transfer used percentiles geoelectric wide range (2 × 10?4 4 10?2 Hz) assuming sinusoidal fluctuation. These results help identify principal causes leading extreme geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) ground infrastructure timescales they inform choice dependence use dBh/dt as GIC proxy.

Logical s-t Min-Cut Problem: An Extension to the Classic s-t Min-Cut Problem

Let $G$ be a weighted digraph, $s$ and $t$ be two vertices of $G$, and $t$ is reachable from $s$. The logical $s$-$t$ min-cut (LSTMC) problem states how $t$ can be made unreachable from $s$ by removal of some edges of $G$ where (a) the sum of weights of the removed edges is minimum and (b) all outgoing edges of any vertex of $G$ cannot be removed together. If we ignore the second constraint, ca...

from linguistics to literature: a linguistic approach to the study of linguistic deviations in the turkish divan of shahriar

chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...

the role of russia in transmission of energy from central asia and caucuses to european union

240601 - 1 1 f Noise and Extreme Value Statistics

We study finite-size scaling of the roughness of signals in systems displaying Gaussian 1 f power spectra. It is found that one of the extreme value distributions, the Fisher-Tippett-Gumbel (FTG) distribution, emerges as the scaling function when boundary conditions are periodic. We provide a realistic example of periodic 1 f noise, and demonstrate by simulations that the FTG distribution is a ...
